My father passed away peacefully at home in his sleep the night of August 19th, 2007. It had been an eventful day of swimming and barbecue at my parent's home for their adult kids and grandkids. My father got to see everyone and say goodbye one last time to all the kids and grandkids. He gave me a big hearty handshake, smiled, looked me in the eye with those big friendly eyes of his, and said goodbye. Little did any of us know that that would indeed be the final goodbye.

What I Learned from Him
What life's lessons and words of wisdom did Dad impart on you that you'll always remember?
Dad was quite the sage. If wisdom comes with age, and man could live forever, a blind man would have guessed Dad was 180 instead of 80. He just seemed to have the answer to everything. For me, he did. I remember when I was a teenager living in California. I had some old clunker cars, and every time I broke down along side the road, I'd get a pocketful of quarters, find myself a payphone, and call Dad back in Missouri. Now Dad was no mechanic, but he didn't need to be. I wasn't calling him for mechanic advice, I was calling him for Dad advice. And he always seemed to have the right answer for me. It seems everyone thinks it's so cool to move away from home, but once you move away, you realize just how dependent you were on your parents all along. Across the room or across the country; thanks Dad, for always being there for me.

One of the many things I learn was, always do what it right. My father was a wonderful example. Thanks Dad!
